...the largest photosensitive emulsion we know of is the planet earth. As vegetation grows, dies back, changes colour with the seasons, the "photographic image" that is our planet alters. Increasingly human intervention plays a larger role in transforming the image of the globe we inhabit.
theres quite a few things he has created that im deeply fond of, but its the working with elements and creating with them that (as with the other artists im going to use in my virtual curation) will hopefully tie the show altogether, as it will be this place where artists with the same passion will be exibiting works that compliment each other.
During 1993 to 1994 Lawrence Jones and Lloyd Godman worked collaboratively on the Mythology of Place. They retraced the words of one of New Zealand's most acknowledged poets, James K Baxter, searching for artifacts that referenced real places, places where the youthful Baxter's naked feet once trod, places that remained with him until the bare foot days before his death.
its stuff like this that keeps me sane in the art world, its such a complex place to be part of and the fact of the matter is, artists do art because its who they are and what they feel and want to create. and this is a good example of the fact that it isnt just about painting and white cubed spaces, its about beautiful ideas and adventures and re tracing people that have inspired you, thats how it should be. it shouldnt be about the money but then how are we to create our art in a society like this? however we are still free to roam and wonder and search, and just generally be inspired by things. thats free. thats why i love land artists because the art they are doing i think is just being. exploring. feeling and capturing.
